About CoreSense

CoreSense is a Horizon Europe–funded project developing a theory and cognitive architecture for understanding in autonomous robots. The project addresses challenges of reliability, resilience, and trust by creating a formal framework of awareness that enables robots to understand their open environments and complex missions.

The project demonstrates its capabilities through three testbeds: drones performing autonomous inspection missions, manufacturing robots with augmented flexibility, and social robots with improved human alignment. Results are delivered as open-source assets within the ROS ecosystem.

More information: coresense.eu

WP1–2 – Theory & Architecture

Formalisation of understanding and awareness theories; reference architecture and runtime system for aware autonomous robots.

WP3–4 – Cognitive Modules & Toolchain

Generic cognitive modules for navigation, explanation, diagnosis and reconfiguration; model-driven engineering toolchain.

WP5 – ROSification

ROS 2 platform instrumentation and packaging of CoreSense results for the open-source ROS community.

WP6–8 – Testbeds

Manufacturing robots (WP6), inspection drone swarms (WP7), and social robots for domestic environments (WP8).

WP9 – Dissemination

Exploitation, communication, and community-building activities to maximise the impact and reach of project results.
